I’ve seen a fire I like on the website – does the price listed include installation?
No – prices listed for indoor fires and stoves are ‘Supply Only’ prices. Please contact us on 01694 724 199 or via sales@confires.co.uk to discuss any installation needs. We can arrange a free survey for your property, after which we will contact you with a full quote for the proposed work. Additional costs incurred by installation include flue materials, man hours, transport and any additional services required.
How much will delivery cost?
Cost of delivery will be calculated and applied to your order at checkout. Delivery charges may vary depending on your region. Where products specify free delivery, no delivery charges will be added to your order.
What lead time can I expect on my fire?
Lead times vary significantly between different manufacturers and models of fire. We would advise customers to contact us to query lead times prior to purchasing a fire. Lead times are changeable and subject to the availability of materials – as such, it is always worth confirming lead times to avoid disappointment.
Does my chimney need to be lined?
Not necessarily. If your chimney is sound & built with internal masonry liners, then subject to its cross-sectional area being the same or a little more than the appliance being installed, further lining will not be needed.
I don’t have a chimney; can I still have a Wood or Gas fire?
Yes – room-sealed balanced flue or powered flue gas appliances do not need to be (But can be) flued up a chimney and can use a wall terminal. A wood burning appliance has the option of having a prefabricated twin wall flue system that can either run up an external wall or within the house.
Can I put a TV above a fire?
Subject to complying with manufacturer’s instructions on both the fire and TV regarding temperature rating and spacing, this can be done, using the correct insulation and method.
I’d like an oak beam in my inglenook fireplace is this possible?
UK Building Regulations Document J specifies required spacing of flammable objects above a fire or stove in an inglenook and these requirements must be observed when designing the size of the alcove, Insulated flue may be required off the top of the appliance to meet the regulations.
Can I put a gas fire into a room without an external wall?
Subject to complying with manufacturer’s instructions on the design of the flue system, many balanced flue systems can run long horizontal distances and exit vertically through the house.
I don’t have mains gas can I still have a gas fire?
A wide choice of propane gas appliances are available to choose from and these can be used from an LPG bulk tank or bottles sited outdoors.
How do I decide on the heat output I need for my room?
Consult a room size versus heat requirement graph to help choosing the right output for your room and avoid going too big with the aim to heat the entire house! Also worth considering the air requirement in relation to the output of the fire, some fires require additional air vents and can shape the decision on output.
I heard that burning wood is environmentally unfriendly – is this true?
No, Modern Eco Ready stoves have stringent testing that means they meet the highest efficiency targets, meaning the emissions are carbon-neutral. Through its life-cycle a tree will absorb a significant amount of carbon dioxide, and when the wood is burned the absorbed carbon is released back into the atmosphere.
Do I need an air brick in the room for a wood stove?
Normally for most houses in the UK no additional ventilation is required when installing a stove with a rated output of 5KW or below. For stoves over this there is the requirement of 5cm² per KW over 5. The requirements for stoves in new properties is calculated from 0. Despite this many new stoves have an option of a direct air kit that eliminates all or some of the need for additional ventilation.
Do you have your own Installation team?
We have and cover in-house all skills needed with the sole exception of that covered by an electrical contractor.
Do you have a recommended way of starting a woodstove & then burning it?
The key to starting and successfully running your appliance is dry fuel. Kindling is traditionally stacked with a lighter in the base to start and once caught logs are added. The top down method can also be a successful method in modern stoves, placing two logs in the base of the fire with a mesh of kindling on top of the logs with a lighter at the top of the stack.
The key to successful burning is keeping the fire on a slow roll, the flames running too quickly will draw too much heat up the flue, too heavily restricted will give improper combustion and may blacken the glass.
