What heat output do I need?
Wood burning stoves come in a range of shapes and sizes. When you’re looking to install a wood burner into your home, one key consideration should be the heat output. As a rough guide, to reach a temperature of 21ºC when the external temperature is 0ºC, you will need approximately 1kW of heat output for every 14 cubic metres of space.
To find the cubic space of a room, multiply together its height, width and length. You can use this figure to get an idea how much heat the room will need. Generally, a 5kW heat output is a good fit for most standard-sized living rooms. However, this is a rough figure – factors such as the number of outside walls, number of windows and whether your property has double glazing will affect your required heat output.
